in order for a zombie outbreak to be viable, the zombies must kill AT LEAST one person for every one among them that falls while attacking the uninfected.
for example, i have a 2 1/2 lb hand axe in my room. if i hear a zombie outbreak has started, i will grab it and kill zombies that try to attack me. i could kill at least a few before i make a mistake or get charged by a massed group of zombies and become infected myself. if everyone is as physically awesome as me, then a zombie outbreak wouldnt work because it wouldnt convert enough to make up for its failed conversion attempts.
so for that reason i think a zombie outbreak wouldnt work.
and then the army comes in, one clip of an M16 can take out at least 10 zombies. so for every 10 zombies lost to a soldier they only get 1 zombie back. (this is just an estimation)
its funny how in zombie films or games theres always zombies ALREADY THERE. and over the course of the film or game EACH SURVIVOR KILLS HUNDREDS OF ZOMBIES. did everyone suck before then or something? lol.
If you recall, in Night of the Living Dead, it was "mysterious radiation" that was causing people to become zombies -- and ANYONE WHO DIED for ANY REASON became a zombie (unless, of course, the death was caused by the type of head trauma that renders zombies permanently dead). The black guy in the original movie dies of a gunshot wound in the basement, doesn't he? Later, he is shown to have "turned."
I'm not sure, but I think that in NOTLD, if you were bitten, you would get sick and die, and then zombifie. But if you died, say, of a stab wound, you'd come back as a zombie, too. And those who were already dead before the radiation event also were coming back to life (e.g. the man at the cemetary who had already been dressed for his funeral).
