Eh, it comes down to don't be a jerk anyways. No use worrying about the details, and following that one rule shouldn't be difficult for anyone.

In that case you don't need them. The only reason for rules is to spell out what is reasonable to those who are, by nature, unreasonable.

We usually ignore them. Use common sense and a little curtesy and all rules become unnecessary. That said, little point in adding a rule on where to post. Occasionally a new member will post in the wrong spot since they're still learning to navigate and making a rule won't change that. After a bit of time posting in the right spot is automatic for most people. Plus, you really don't want me to start punishing people for breaking that rule. I'd have way too much fun with it. Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

also, is there a way to hide the more personal stuff from anyone who happens to be surfing the internet?

Ignore the rules, good people don't need them and bad people don't read them. Wink There is no rule about oversharing, and the only way to protect what you say online is to not say it. Once it's out there it's no longer private.
