Somewhere in the mid thirties I suspect. I stopped counting around 16 or 17. Seems I can't open a drawer or tool box without finding a sling or the remains of one. I've tapered off to the point I only make a sling every 3 to 4 months. There are so many variations on slings left to try and I have other interests that need time and attention.

P.S. yes you are obsessed ... I'm sure you will eventually find other things that need your time and attention ... I think it is a phase we all go through after discovering the sling.

Very true. I bet 80% of my slings were made within a month or two of starting slinging.

I go through periods when I'll crank out a lot of slings.  I have about a dozen around here.  There's a couple of my best ones and a bunch I've traded for with guys this forum.  I also have one staff sling here. I consider myself obsessed.

Slings and slinging really interest me. I've made over 30 and I still think about how to improve this or that. I like paracord cords/leather pouches, braided slings with split pouches and seatbelt slings. Probably make about one a month on average. I try them out and make a few changes on the next one. Sometimes the change isn't even noticeable, but they get better. I may be obsessed. If you aren't careful, it might happen to you!  Grin

I think we're all searching for that magic sling that will throw 200m and give dinner plate sized groups. Ain't no such animal. Once you've got a good basic unit, slinging is mainly about the slinger not the sling. ( I still can't help myself though)

BTW If you want better results concentrate on better ammo more so than a better sling.

Like Rat Man I go through periods where I crank out a lot of slings. I always have a PJ and at least one seatbelt sling around that are my go to slings. Most of the slings that are in my posession now are slings that I have traded with other members for.

I have just just finished my 9th in about a month, I do all things this way, I find something to learn, then go all out on it so that I get it learned really really well and I won't forget.  Then some time will pass and I will just go and make another one, but because I went crazy on it at first I remember exactly how to do it.
I've made an apache leather pouch, a few braided split pouches (was the first design I practiced,) a woven solid pouch, a woven split pouch, a netted pouch, (all these of jute,) a cotton yarn woven split pouch (black and white,) and another jute one I just finished, not quite sure what to call it, it is woven solid partway on each end of the pouch and then a woven split in the middle.  I haven't made the bead for the release cord yet, so I haven't tried it out, I think I really like it.
I really want to make a staff sling soon, but right now I am working on a roundbraided 8 strand woven split pouch.  All my others have just been 3 strand multiples.

If you're wondering why some of us that sometimes crank out a lot of slings don't have more around the house it's because there's a custom here of giving away slings.  Many of us would be up to our butts in slings if we didn't give them away.

I have made many slings, no idea how many, but well over 50 over a couple of years.  Some is given away and some is taken apart (and the least usefull is thrown away), but I got a nice self made collection of most of the different types of slings in existence Cheesy.
I am obsessed, but seem keep it under better control now Wink
Anyway, sling making is perfect for those interested in knotting and braiding, like me.  When I make a sling now, it slowly comes into existence and evolves until it is right inside my head before I make it.  With the odd exception, of course, sometimes they just suddenly spring into existence.

Rat Man is quite right here. I think the tradition started with the Aussie Pouches, at least that's where I picked it up from. After Aussie wrote the original tutorial for the Seatbelt Sling and then PJ rewrote it and was very helpful with emails and videos I started cranking them out. They are so cheap and effective it would be a crime not to share. Plus it's a good way to strike up a conversation with pretty girls in the park. Grin

I wish I had someone to give some away to, it's mostly littler kids who ask, but I'm a bit wary about giving them one without them asking their parents...
