Knights of the Round Table

Hi Leuts,

I saw in this film a Pikten flinging an arrow. Unfortunately, it is to be seen only very short.
Have you tried such a thing already once??

I've seen those before. I forget what they're called.
BTW, that can't be in Scotland, the sun is shining!

Looks like this to me: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1257014504

Funny that, almost until present, directors put 5th century Arthurian warriors into 15th century armours. Same in "Camelot".

Yes, defintively those whip bows.  I found two, one at 1:38 and one at 2:40.  They got an high mortality rate.

I think there's a loop one the end of the string and a notch near the front of the arrow.

Hi Leuts,

I remembered once a bronze to have seen point.

It had lateral a small hook. I found a reply in the net.

For an archer this hook makes no sense.

I agree, Jaegoor. It looks very much like a projectile point for a whip bow or something similar to me.

I disagree. Casting bronze is a very expensive process in terms of energy and effort. You dont go to such an expense only to throw the result from a whip bow when you could and should be using a proper bow. The cost of the bow is trivial compared to the cost of the bronze casting operation.

I see the point, but I don't think arrows shot by something like a whip bow get lost more or less often than those shot by a bow, at least under battle conditions (for hunting it may be different). The possibility to retrieve either of them after combat is the same, no matter the accuracy.

Bronze is much less expensive during the production than metal
Bronze points were still used very long for the hunting.
Which sense would the hook have, otherwise??

the hook could just be leftover from the casting process,
it'd work as a barb so no reason to remove it.

It's not the original, but the hook looks intentional. A leftover from casting would probably be straight. And the curved bases of the blade wings work as barbs already.
