How do you throw a bola like that? I´ve found that grabbing the weapon by the joints of the rope is not very effective (at leats for me) All the weights fly in the same direction, grabbing it by one of the weights, allows the whole thing to open.

Bolas (or bolas perdidas, lost balls in Spanish). Sounds like an unfortunate injury to me. A bolo is a sort of large knife somewhat similar to a machete, used in the Philippines and Malaya.
