VALLEY OF FIRE 2010
Dec 9th, 2009 at 7:10pm

for those interested and able to attend, the annual Valley of Fire atlatl and primitive skills gathering is happening again march 19th-21st 2010 at the 'valley of fire' national monument in Nevada, USA. this is the west's largest (and funnest!) gathering of atlatl and primitive skills enthusiasts. the park is a magnificent setting where you get to camp and throw spears under thousands of years old petroglyphs of people doing the same thing! there will be tons of ISAC events including a 3D target course and scheduled competitions. knapping, slinging, archery, lectures, music, hands-on tutorials, and tons of other fun stuff. the event and camping are totally free, only a $6 charge per vehicle per day for addmission to the park. dogs and children are welcome. some of the notable attendees will be Jim Winn (one of the best knappers in the west), Tom Mills (founder of PaleoPlanet), and of course myself (someone has to represent Slinging.org!) feel free to contact me here, or Tom Mills over on the Planet, for more info. this is one of the best gatherings of the year, attracting people from as far as Alaska, the east coast, and Europe! i hope to see some of you there.  Cheesy

just to let everyone know, Southwest airlines has dirt cheap flights into Las Vegas which is less than an hour away from the Valley of Fire. a lot of people are going to fly in, meet up, and split the cost of a rental van. anyone here interested just let me know and i'll try and get you some details. trust me, guys, this is going to be some serious fun!

Miles is the problem.  It takes a lot longer to drive across America.  I have driven across our country before.  It's a very wonderful thing to do, but it's one heck of a long drive.

Certainly is! Valley of Fire is a good two days drive for me (and that's only from Dallas), or two Southwest Airlines flights (courtesy of the Wright Amendment Angry) Then I get the TSA crawling all over my camping equipment Sad telling me the stove might contain explosive gases. I used to fly out to Las Vegas and rent a car there a lot but no longer.

However, despite my whining I might be able to make it, looks like it will be a lot of fun!

Looks awesome! But.... maybe next year.  Wink

Judging from Priceline, The trip would actually be cheaper for me to just drive there. Which may be for the better; After all, who knows how many hoops you would have to jump through to get sharp, pointy objects to you on the other end of a flight. Tongue
