I haven't even met her but I already like your gf. Caterpillar sheath is an awesome description. You should get her to name your atlatls.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

well I'd hang one up on a wall - but I'd put on a dress and call myself shirley, before wearing one in public Wink
The middle one even comes with a pink knife lol

Cool design, and a very apt name! If you designed a knife with a pommel shaped like a bug's head (eyes and all) it would look really bizarre.

Very beautiful work again, paleo!

I'll attach an ugly duckling as a contrast: My first attempt to make a sheath from pampa grass. Genuine raw material collected from the famous Welsh pampa. Wink

Thanks very much, paleo! No, I haven't found any flint or chert yet, and I would have to take very much care with knapping at he moment because I have little children running/crawling around everywhere. Maybe I'll  fix one of my old small arrowheads to a handle or so.

I read in the traditional Bowyers Bible volume 2 about a guy who kept his broadheads sharp in the quiver by putting a loose fitting sheath over each one, which would come off and stay in the quiver when the arrow was drawn.

These caterpillar sheaths would be ideal for that cos the little legs will drag on the inside of the quiver and make sure it comes off. A couple of sizes should handle most standard two blade broadheads. Sell them in sets of six and I reckon they could be a winner.

Nice work PA  Smiley I'd wear all of those in public before I'd wear a wolf-tee. Maybe I am blessed with good public  Wink

Is the lacing just a series of overhand-thru loops, and if so, are they just held under their own tension or have you gotten out the superglue? Or Do you have a continuous band with insert for tails?

The fringing would help a lot with stuff shifting around for the traveller that prefers to be unencumbered by ties, straps and bands.

Some bushies here made a similar thing with a tripe-S lace around pocket knife and tobacco pouches to stop them slopping around in your pocket or on your belt without needing an extra "look at me , I'm Rambo" style tie. Big with old timie riders once.

I have a great book with a whole section on cunning and functional edgelacing if you'd like me to do you some scans?
