From the Death of Conair Mor, King of Ireland.

When Etriscil the King, died, a bull was slain; and one who was a diviner drank of the broth and ate the flesh of the bull and went into a slumber, and truth telling spells were chanted over him.
All this was done so that it might be shown to the people what man was destined to be King over them. In his slumber, the diviner cried out that he the one who was destined to be King; he saw him as a naked man, carrying a sling, and a stone was in the sling, coming by night along the road to Tara.

When Conair Mor hears about this, he does just that, and becomes King of ireland.
I thought our method of determining leadership was screwy.

Naked men walking down the road carrying slings is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some ancient ballistic weaponry. I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some mushroom-muncher had seen me with a bit of string they'd put me away!
