sling "knot" idea
Oct 6th, 2009 at 8:08pm

i just thought of something

has anyone ever took paracord and cut the release cord longer by an inch? then after that you would melt it down until it is where you would normally have a knot? so instead you would just have a melted blob? it would seem more durable, and more round than a knot.

and has anyone ever took paracord and tied a knot, then melted around the knot? that way it is encased in a smaller layer of plastic? same principle as above but probably easier and less time consuming

Haven't tried it with paracord but with other cords it doesn't melt very evenly. Also it tends to break away from the cord, so not very reliable. Use a small wooden or plastic bead. Works well, looks good and is easy to replace if it breaks. Available at craft shops.

I have had melted blobs crack and split so I'm not keen on trying this. Ashleys stopper knot that I leaned from PJ is the best I have seen so far.

Plain old paracord is extremely durable and abrasion-resistant.  Melted blobs of it... not so much.

In theory this idea is cool; in practice, it would not work out the way you think of it.  And a "blob" of melted paracord of the size that would be required would be pretty unmanageable.

with the paracord I tie the knot then take a diffrent  cord and melt that till it is bruning on it own blow it out then use the meled drop from this cord to hold your knot were you want it

It's a little tricky at first.  It's a knot that takes a bit of careful working to gradually tighten it into shape.
I recommend that you look it up in "The Complete Book of Knots" by Geoffrey Budworth.  His instructions make it easy.

not on my release cords it ain't lol

I always melt the cord ends into the knot, but paracord isn't ideal for blob making .

Cool, a knot even a dyslexic wreck can do.  It's just a slip know with the tag passed back through the main loop.  This may be a keeper.  A dyslexic person will almost always spell dyslexic wrong (dsylexic) without a spell checker.
