As for the site itself I have no idea. As for the knives, I'm familiar with some of the brands (SOG and Kershaw) and they are good quality knives. I'd avoid anything with a 440 Stainless blade, and opt for a carbon steel blade instead. They seem to hold an edge better.

Shrade's "Old Timer" series are particularly durable, nothing fancy, just a handle and a blade. I've carried one for almost 20 years and used the heck out of it. I love it (it's the model 1940T, to be exact.

Appalachian makes a decent knife. I use one at work. It only cost 3.00 US, so I don't feel bad if it gets dinged up.

Hope that helps some.

I know the owner of ragweedforge personally, and the man is so honest, well, it's almost criminal. And, go for carbon steel. besides, if ever need to, you can use it for a strike a lite.

Haha, i really thought you were a spambot Woonilsra, your first message in this post really sounded like one Grin.
Anyway I would also recommend to  buy a nice cheap mora, a good quality functional knife, and so cheap you won´t mind loosing or abusing it (I got at least four floating around the farm here).
Carbon steel rusts, stainless steel is more corrosion resistand (no "stainless" is really stainless). Carbon steel is said to hold an edge better but  modern stainless steel performes pretty well too, and the resistance to corrosion might outweigh the toughness of carbon for several situations (I live by the seaside, stainless is practical).

I recommend a good stainless so that it will be more tolerant of dirt and water. Go cheap, but get a thick 3/16" to 5/16" blade for the inevitable digging and prying. Slim and sexy isn't always best, even if it looks good.

Carbon steel has a higher content of carbon that is basically baked into the metal. What this does is give it strength, flexibility, and spring. It does mean, though, that it rusts, and eventually develops a grey patina on it. Think of files and chisels. They're carbon steel also, but they are tempered to a different hardness.
Stainless has little to no carbon, but has other minerals like tungsten, molybdenum and such in them. This means that they won't rust as fast. They will eventually. Some say that they are not as strong or hold an edge as well. I suppose that debate will go on forever. I like carbon simply because it's what I grew up on, and have always had. I do have stainless steel SAKs and like them too.

those 3/15 and 3/16, is that how thick the blade is? also, what do you mean by digging andprying?
Ah, so i see here, is it more personal preference?
Since id use the knife for carving, do i want it as sharp as i can get
whats sharper, carbon steel or stainless steel, or it it irrelevant if i get a knife sharpner? (or do i not need a sharpner?)

I think a lot of that could be personal preference. I have a few stainless blades and a few carbon steel blades. The one that seems to work the best?

My Damascus blade.

With a few good sharpening stones (coarse, medium, and fine) or a diamond dust coated stone, any knife can be made sharp, in my opinion. Incidentally, I've found that honing the blade with a piece of ceramic seems to put a final touch-up on it.

Buy a knife from the USA. Not China, as most stuff they export is junk. (at least to the US)

Right you are, but the bigger question is how long does it stay sharp...
Woonilsra, if you want to use the knife for carving, go for good carbon steel, take good care of it, and use the knife for carving only.
All purpose knife for daily abuse (the digging and prying of Masiaki) still the cheap stainless mora.

Remember there is no one knife or tool that is good at everything.  I think you should have a SAK (with all those junk as you call them attachments) good for general every day use.  A sharp carving knife is good for carving and a big blade is good for prying.  The bottom line is each application requires the proper and different tool, that is one reason there are so many different styles of knifes.  If you have only 1 knife you will end up using it for what it was not intended and wrecking it.  I have yet to meet a $10 knife that was good for anything but putting butter on bread.

Then you are or not looking well enough or a big snob.... Grin
Let´s face it raw material for a knife is one of the more common ones on earth and pretty cheap, the technology to produce them is  a couple of thousand years old. There is no need for a good knife to cost you an arm and a leg.
