Hi all
Are Plunbata http://www.comitatus.net/research_files/plumbata.htm the same as a Cestros? Most of the info on Roman reenactment sites seem to be saying that they were thrown by hand.

Similar, but not the same. The plumbata was weighted with lead and lobbed by hand by the regular infantry. The Kestrosphendone was thrown with a sling and went much further.
