et cetera, everyone gets tired of the English program! If only teachers were creative, students may achieve higher scores. In all my schooling i have only had one realllly good teacher. he raised all the students in my class's exam results over 75%.. thats pretty amazing if you actually have seen the class! It was history, gold rush's etc.. but he actually has experienced a gold rush, everything he taught, he didnt read indirectly from the text, talking from expirience. Occasionally he would take us out for a game of soccer, to throw the boomarang when we were studying the aborigines.

Guess what happened to him.. fired for taking another class out to play soccer after exams. And I was left with the usual teachers droning away, reading only the lines in the text book. *sigh*

What a shame. It's actually been researched that physical activity helps on test scores and the like.

back in the day, my primary school had us running for 15 minutes before class began . Study also shows that teenagers must have 9:15 hours sleep for 100% concentration, every half an hour of 9:15, concentration is decreased by 25%, an hour less sleep, 25% of 100 - 75% then after another half an hour, 25% is decreased of 75%.

and after all of this research,

"beep beep beep, wake up! you had 2 hours of sleep and your not fully concentrating, studies have shown you need 9 hours and still you slack off after 2, horrible, disgraceful, bilge!!!!!!!!!!"

don't we all admire most modern day teachers. this year i have this teacher who's awesome. she doesn't take us out side to practice on chariots when we did ancient Egypt but she's still cool Cool

this thread was mainly for members who have English as their second or even third language. Some are ashamed and non confident. This may limit the posts they make.

Didn't think of that...  English is my first language and I still can't spell  Roll Eyes  I think that a spell check option is a good idea, that way you can turn it off when it get's annoying.

Hmm, dunno about that - ever heard icelandic or dutch ? lol

We do have a lot of words that mean different things - but then chinese uses the same word with different inflections for three seperate meanings.
Now that's tricky Smiley

English isn't phonetic, where a lot of languages are. Its a large part of the reason its easier to learn how to spell in Spanish, Japanese, etc.

Spanish has some weird accent rules, but once you get through those you can basically spell everything. English meanwhile has vague rules, and the chance that a randomly picked word actually doesn't break any of them is pretty low. That's a large portion of the reason English can get away with so many homonyms such as heard(to have received sound information through the ear) and herd (a large group of animals, typically used with herbivores). Plus our comma rules are at least as complicated as the Spanish accent rules.

Japanese is even easier, every letter is 1 complete syllable. Always. If you put two letters next to each other you get two syllables, and the letters don't modify each other in how they sound. English meanwhile has constructions such as ph, kn, gn, etc.

Just look at my forum name, it would be pronounced "Nate". But because of how letter groups interact, it can use any number of different spellings, including the one I favor that went in as the forum name. For instance:
Nate
Knaight
Gnaight
Knait
Knaite
Knate
Gnait
Gnaite
Gnate
Nait
Naight

This sort of crap doesn't fly in pretty much any other language.
