It sounds like you've made a war club.  There are a million names for these things -- bagorro, barkal, dangra, jawati, mugdar, potu, wongala, yural-bari, and the like.  They were a standard weapon in the Pacific Islands, and you can find lots of them hanging in whaling museums and the like.  Some of them are works of art.  And in the hands of someone who knows how to use them, they can be very good weapons.

If you have a chance, check out the classic A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration, and Use of Arms and Armor by George Cameron Stone, available through Amazon at

http://www.amazon.com/Glossary-Construction-Decoration-Arms-Armor/dp/0486407268/...;

It's the ultimate book on this and many other fascinating subjects Smiley

I suspect I would call it a 'pointed stick' ;-)

it's not quiete as as basic as a pointed stick, it fits in with the term "war club" more nicely, besides it's not even that pointy (and it looks nicer than a pointed stick, it's polished and water proof and looks like it has had more than 10 mins put into it, which is true, i put about 2 hours into it.)

That's a good size.  It's pretty much the length of the clubs I improvised myself on the extremely rare occasions that I needed to carry a weapon -- small enough to avoid attracting attention or starting a fight, but long enough to block with and outreach a knife.  What kind of wood did you use?  How heavy is it?  And have you worked out any particular combat forms to use with the thing?

it's made of tetree (that's not it's proper name), it's a new zealand hardwood,i don't know how heavy it is because i don't have any ways of waaying a weapon, but i'd say it was in beetwix 300 and 400 grams, i haven't devised any proper fighting forms for it so to speak, but it's designed to hurt bones, and it works very well for that purpose. Yep, that sounds right for a war club!  A lot of tomahawks were made the same way, and I'm sure you've watched the tomahawk fight scene in Last of the Mohicans.  I'll be curious to see a photo when you finally have a chance.

You could always cut a 45cm chunk off of a broken axe handle bottom, and use the knob end for clunking someone. The knobby protrusion will give it some weight, and a larger striking surface, plus there would be a wee bit of a psychological advantage in your favour. Thats my summary, but that all goes out the window when the bad guy has a gun.
