I thought you had to weave a sling from what ever plants grow in your area then once you have killed your first animal you can then make a leather one.
Of course I just bought some leather and nylon string from my slings.

The tie-dyed colors tend to be smaller diameter thread so they aren't as rough or stiff as regular hemp string.
