the ruler isnt commerce bank   .it was intended to be a netted pouch but there was to many strands for it to work properly so i just whipped it into a split pouch. its round braid. you have to braid one colour and use it as a core for the other then keep switching between colours http://www.saroftreve.com/wwl/braiding/4roundcore.shtml

Two days early, but here is my Independence Day Sling. Wonder what would have happened if the colonials had slings instead of single shot black powder rifles?

We would still be a colony of England and the principles of the uprising would have been shot or hung as tratiors to the crown.

Lately I have slowly drifted from a narrow grip with the finger loop around the ring finger toward a wide grip with the loop around the middle finger.
This led me to this "great invention", an Apache sling suited and measured to a wide grip Cheesy Wink
Made from hemp(with uneven thicknes), 4-strand round braid(flat braid finger loop and split pouch), and Mathew Walker for release knot.

Something different...I had a leather resource, an well-worn leather belt, of wich a part became a double crossower strap pouch.  I used some old Mink Oil to soften the straps, wich is cut apprx 1" x 7".  Cords is paracord.

I wondered the same thing, I think slings are more effitiont, faster to load, and with alot of practace sometimes more accurate, but who knows?

Good idea and real nice looking sling timann. How does it compare with your Apache?

this one is more for function than decoration

  • chain hitched loop and
whipping added for extra sling life
    • fendigedig

Camo-sling, nice sling, a little colour difference is to be expected sometimes, and I simply ignores it.  It has happened to me when I must start using a new roll of cord for the second half of the pouch.

Walther, my belt strap sling and Apache sling is rather equal - as slings.  Basically same size and lenght.  I slightly prefer the Apache sling, it is a bit more comfortable, looks a little better(, and lets me use another of my hobbies, braiding).
But the "belt strap" is a  great sling, too.
Basically it is just different ways of reaching a goal, wich is getting a good and effective sling Wink

adsi, I think you does right to add whipping to your netted pouches, that is what I did on the one I made Cheesy
I think it makes it tidyer, firmer and longer lasting.

Your netted/split pouches looks nice.

I have played with chain hitched finger loops, to, and do not consider it a good idea Sad

timmann thanks for your comments on my sling.the chain hitched loop in my opinion is incredibly comfortable due to its width but i do admit it uses quite alot of yarn and i could have had a longer sling with a regular braided loop

hey adsi, how many strand did you use for your finger loop, and does your chain hitched sling stretch? i find my cotton slings don't stretch a lot, but does chain hitching itself do that?
