Very nice and clean sling, ScantPalaver! I really like the look of synthetic balearic slings.

I agree, it's all but impossible to have too much slingmaking material. Cheesy

@Eino - Beautiful Egyptian!  You have very quickly become one of the great sling makers on this forum. Thumbs Up

Thank you  Grin

Once, Toivo and Eino were out hunting, and before setting out, Toivo told Eino to fire three shots in the air if he got lost, and Toivo would find him. Soon enough, Eino got lost, aimed his weapon up and prayed: "God, please let Toivo see my arrows!"

Summer busy and messed up my finger pretty badly doing some dumb stuff so haven't been active for a while/been able to braid properly but at least finished the last paracord one I was doing. Probably my best feeling one yet; have come to find that a fixed single loop around the middle finger feels nice and free with added bonus of it being quick to get on/off for potential "shenanigans" (and it can more easily be wrapped around the wrist and not look out of place as a bracelet). May stick to this design for everything in the future. Meant for this one to be for tennis balls but that'll be the next project; made the pouch slightly too small. This one should fit the Jaegoor balloon ammo I've now made though (very nice with reusable ammo).

Transition now clean enough to not have to use up as much material. Whip-cracker now used is just empty paracord, coming off a knot of the tapered ones, cut a bit to fray. It doesn't sound like a whip-cracker, more subdued sound like one of those foldable paper-crackers, but being sensitive to sound it's perfect for me and it's nice to have it intregrated in black; doesn't stick out. Loop is just an empty extra paracord zig-zag between the fixed double loop design.

The taper of the release cord looks good.  It looks like the removal of the core strands was staggered to create a gradual taper.  Is that correct?

Hello everyone, it's been at least a decade since my last post, and to be honest I haven't been out slinging for a long time, due to personal mental health, which eventually turned into bad physical health which I've been slowly working on and recovering from, anyway , enough about me, Have some photos of some old slings I've made.

and as a bonus my black and green one. Not a huge fan of how the pouch turned out, I'm pretty bad at weaving, but I can't seem to get away from woven pouches regardless, either way it performs absolutely amazingly, I've been having a good time with it.

If anybody else can suggest some neat paracord pouch ideas, feel free to throw them my way.

Summer slinging: my bag hanging at 26 paces. Day One, three good hits. Day Two, one hit. Day Three, no hits after throwing a storm of stones. So it goes

I remember this spot. You already talked about these bad stones. Did you use the stones on the ground ?
If so, were your shots grouped ?

As usual, I use rough stones off the cliff. After 40 years of slinging I still can't get cnsistency. Day four: direct hit on first shot. Day five: no hits.

Thank you very much!  Smiley

Yes I copied BSRC but instead of laying the strings out instead I go past the pouch maybe an inch then pull up the outer sleeves as far as possible and start gutting the innards (maybe 10 cm stagger/eyeballing it).

I do this for ALL the strings though but my current most used sling (basically ONLY used sling because it's the one I bring with me to the beach) is the one previously photoed in the introduction where there's a single full one hanging off with just a tiny granny knot for release (the rest is not tapered at all). Now that I've used it a lot and it's frayed better I actually sounds a lot more like a whip when throwing hard.

Currently in the middle of another sling, that'll have the same type of fingerloop, and will try to do something similar; cutting all the innards off 3 strands but leaving the one as is and try to end it the same way. Light release the way to go imho.

Do people have preferences with pouches being hard/soft (if it goes that far)? Is it bad/good objectively? Pouch on my most used sling here was before I used gutted paracords. It's soft and I don't really like it; it gets use because it's the one I've already dirtied up but it FEELS like it affects release. It holds no shape either. The gutted ones hold their cupped shape even when not in use whereas this one is just flat/bendable. I really like but also hate different aspects of it; the cognitive dissonance is real.  Tongue

I like to throw wild stones and I sometimes have concentrated shots and sometimes a little less.  Roll Eyes
Three possibilities are posible.
1) Pick up the rocks before to shoot. Then throw them by decreasing sizes.
2) Select consistent projectiles from time to time. Tennis balls for example to not pollute the site.
3) Increase the target size because you are currently setting the bar very high.

Beautiful! I like the color choice. I tried to do it something similar with dyed sisal, but it got rained on and the blue/yellow turned very green Smiley

Thank you!  It's not just a color change, it's a material change too.  I noticed the baling twine (polypropylene) retention cord was really stiff, so I started wondering "why not make the release cord floppy floppy?" (In the great words of Ze Frank)
So I took some of the braided fishing line (Dacron polyester) I had from a previous project and spliced it in to finish.

Thank you!  Your's looks amazing too!  I had a friend ask me what I wanted for Christmas, and I sent them this picture and said, "make me something like this!"

So this is two different materials correct? It's a very pretty sling.
