I really like the theory behind y slings but in my experience there isn’t much of an advantage in actual practice. I do think there may be some more exploration to be made in their design elements. I feel that y sling staff slings are something with a very high potential.
I've been using it daily for a while now, and it does have it's pros and cons....
I find it throws balls, and pretty much any random shape you can imagine, very accurately. Moreso than with a regular sling at shorter range.... However, a regular sling rifles bullets, allowing you to wang them much further....
I also noticed it's much quieter too. The lack of spin stops the whistling, so maybe better for hunting too??....
I'm still experimenting with it though. Changing designs slightly, playing with the cords with the hope that it starts rifling the ammo, getting the best of both worlds....
Also, I tried attaching it to a staff.... 😁👌....
