Sorry to hear that, IG.

I recently finished another egyptian sling. It is 8/5 linen rug warp woven over sticks. Smiley

Once, Toivo and Eino were out hunting, and before setting out, Toivo told Eino to fire three shots in the air if he got lost, and Toivo would find him. Soon enough, Eino got lost, aimed his weapon up and prayed: "God, please let Toivo see my arrows!"

Beautiful sling Eino.
For those of us not in the know please explain what 8/5 is and rug warp.
The rest I get.
Many thanks
😁👍

Rug warp is just string used for weaving rugs. 8/5 is the size. 8 size of the internal strands, 5 is number of internal strands. When I measured it, it is about 2mm in diameter.
I figured I should include specifics for anyone looking at using this material, since I was trying to do so a few months ago and had no idea what string to use.

In other words, it's just string. Smiley

Eino,
Really appreciate the specifics.
I've never done any rug making but understand the frustrations of materials knowledge.
I do leatherwork and finding what they brilliant thread is can be frustrating as different manufacturers make the same thing under different names specifically to confuse customers .
So it's not just string untill you know what it's made of and in this instance it's not just string because if it's linen it's made from flax - not cotton - and generally, ordinary string is cotton.
Cheers
😁👍

My latest sling, a jute Chamorro sling based on this tutorial: https://itanohu.blogspot.com/2012/11/chamorro-sling-acho-atupat-tutorial.html

Instead of a finger loop I did a wrist loop.

I love that pattern, I made a sling similar to it that I really like. I think I like yours more.

It was pretty fun to make and feels like it'll throw well. I would definitely recommend it. Smiley

Thank you!

I finished another Egyptian sling today, and it is made of white and yellow mason's line twined over sticks.

The pattern came out a bit subtle, like a lighter shade of yellow, but it really pops out under a UV light.
