Oscar, your slings are just works of art. I don't would be afraid to use one for fear of destroying part of it!

Don't worry. The sling doesn't destroy when you use it

  • 23" wool peruvian sling, finished just before Ibiza. Some of you guys saw this one in the flesh. It is an 8 strand jacket around a core of jute twine, which largely eliminates stretch.
  • 18" cotton Balearic sling. This one was just department store string. It was half completed on a train journey and finished at home. It's waxed and has a dyneema tassel. Slimmer and shorter than my usual slings, but I had to make sure I had enough material!
  • Various seatbelts, and some new experimental designs.

Great to be back at the sling crafting again!

Once, Toivo and Eino were building a house, but as Toivo worked, he would occasionally throw a nail over his shoulder. When Eino asked why he was being so wasteful, he said, “The heads are on the wrong side!” Eino looked at him and said, “You dummy, those are for the other side of the house!”

It is a braid with seven threads. It's not difficult to learn. The number of threads can easily be varied. I have never used it.

I see what you mean. Sort of like this braid (https://www.seekyee.com/Slings/howtos/5strand2.htm) but with 7 strands. I'll have to try it out sometime. Smiley

Yes. That is the method. I know it from leather work. It is not difficult and can be expanded as desired.

A VERY brightly colored 26" mason's twine (nylon) peruvian sling. It was my first time using this material for an entire sling, and I really like it so far.

I modified the design to have a tapered release cord ending a long tab (wide 6-strand flat braid) with a 4-strand round braided cracker / tassel on the end. I'm not sure how well this experimental release end will work; I'll try it out tomorrow.

Thanks! I've only been able to throw small foam balls with it so far (since I was inside), but based on that it works quite well. It snaps quite nicely when thrown. I'm going to try it with tennis balls or something later today.

My latest dyneema sling.
Made of one piece of dyneema looping into itself creating a core that tapers down on the release end. Brummel splicing for finger loop and split pouch.
Then used kiteboarding line (also dyneema) to make high tension braiding for split pouch protection.
