So this is the evolution of my design. I put a lot of thought into this.  There are some improvements over the model above.
The retention cord and pouch are no longer part of each other (the cords used for the construction of the pouch flow over into the retention cord). The release cord
on the other hand is replaceable as it is looped through the pouch end.
First the selection of the fibre. I choose sisal because of how grippy, abrasion resistant and light/hollow the fibre is. For me it has the best performance compared to the denser jute and hemp.
I tried twisted cords, flat braided and round braided cords and the latter has won my favor of all 3, it feels the most forgiving but all 3 will work.
The pouch is 4 rows wide instead of 3 rows. The 3 rows were a little bit too narrow for absolute secure slinging with the a wider grip as I discovered.
The part where the release is gripped  flows into a 4 strand flat braid. The retention loop is also a 4 strand flat braid.
The nalbinded pouch works excellent with twine, it's not as stiff or heavy as a fully woven pouch made of sisal and not as loose as a netted pouch.

Synthetic sling made of some sort of 3mm poly, made out of 1 length piece of continuous cord. Comfortable flat thumb release tab.

Here’s a new design for me. Probably more decorative than practical!
