I dont think that. I have been looking for a tutorial for a long time, and didnt find one. Look closely at how the slings are made and you will understand it. (2 loops/4 strand braid/ woven split pouch. You'll figure out how to make the smile if you look closely)

which side carries the stone, the one with the straps, or the one with the knots?

or does it matter?

Just a few tennis ball slings, they come in a variety if colours Smiley.
I've been making them around 30 inches. Which gives you about twice the range of a rigid tennis ball chucker Smiley

And yes there is an all black model Smiley

De Black Mamba whistle

And if you're wondering why I made it with the holes in the closed pouch.
It makes it much harder to use it for anything that isn't tennis ball sized and shaped.

As these are primarily aimed at new slingers, I really don't want them used for potentially lethal ammo.
These are specifically made for tennis balls or sockballs.

Every single design aspect is there for a specific reason Smiley
The stiffness of the pouch, means it won't easily wrap round anything smaller than a tennis ball.
The knots and sliding finger loop are designed for maximum grip versatility and comfort in use.
A tight, sliding, finger loop will not rub.
It also makes it much less likely that you will throw the sling 'away'.

The materials used make it suitable for throwing wet tennis balls.
The curvature of the pouch means it's easy to roll the soggy ball into the pouch with your foot, for a dry hand reload. Also that the ball will not easily fall out until thrown.
The pouches also fold flat for ease of posting.
Oh yeah and while it galls me to say it, these are vegan 'friendly'.
I'll take anybody's money whistle

The thing about using leather, is simply that it's inconsistent and I don't have a reliable source for it.
So being able to make the finger loops from the same material as the pouch, gives you both matching loops and pouch, consistency and never running out of source material.

People think that slings are 'simple' mine aren't Smiley

very smart. When i tried teaching a beginner, he didnt want to use tennis balls and always put a stone in the pouch when i wasnt looking (i dont even know what is so interesting about using stones, they are just dangerous tennisballs). he almost hit a car that day (the car was 50 meters behind us), thats why a gave him a new sling the next day. The new sling had a huge split pouch and was almost to big for tennisballs he couldnt use stones with that one, because they would instantly fall to the ground.

Yeah and that was with a supervised beginner.
Most of these will be sold to totally random strangers with nothing but a couple of videos to get them going.

For me it's all about getting as many people slinging as possible.
Which means it has to be safe for use in public spaces.
With minimal chance to injure anyone.
Plus tennis balls are universal and somebody seeing you slinging tennis balls will generally come over and chat.
If you're throwing stones, totally different response and going by some of the stories on the forum - law enforcement tends to get involved.

If someone is properly keen, they can make their own stone slings. And join the forum.

But I think most people who buy these, will probably stick to tennis balls in the long term.

I have been training parcour for 2 years and the parcour community had a big problem. Some freerunners got on the property of others and were just very annoying. that lead to people hating the parcour community, even the freerunners that were not harming anyone. this should not happen to slinging. if beginners start training with stones and destroy someones property this will lead to slingers being hated. we should avoid this by giving beginners slings like the ones you make.

This is an  Egyptian style sling the pouch came out smaller than intended so it’s ideal for lead or steel ammo but can still sling decent sized stones of about egg size it is 26.5 inches folded  or 68.5 centimeters  the pouch size is ideal for a 3 oz lead sinker
