Yes, it was an old board for cutting vegetables in the kitchen, I recently started using it for only a month, these holes from needles while sewing sling, this round piece of wood went through about 15 slings I made

A simple yet indispensable piece of kit.  Wink

Visiting some people, found a spool of waxy rafia-like material, made this thing. Then went to visit a beach where the much missed Aussie gave me (remotely) some slinging lessons. The pebbly beach supplied nice smooth round stones, a somewhat derelict pier provided the place to shoot for distance (which I rarely do). Started with body away from the direction of shoot, sling rotating vertically, then full-on release with whole body to the point that both knees flexed, the right one touching the stone pier. Good throws (flight for a count of 5, sometimes 7).

7 seconds is pretty dang good. I'm wondering how you did remote lessons that many years ago...

I posted vids on YT and Aussie corrected my posture and technique (don't step into your throw ! Twist your body !). This picture comes from that coaching sequence. And it's an Aussie pouch, too !

My new technique (by which I kneel into the throw and end up supporting myself on my left fist) I will now call a "ScarJo"

beefy sling with cinching loop, spliced attachments, floppy thick cords,  still substantial in weight, experimental

edit: tested it out today, this sling is not for me,  it gives too much spin on the projectiles

My newest sling. It is a balearic sling made out of plastic. I made it, because i was at a beach today and tried slinging in the water.

Super light simple pocket sling. Length of my arm up to shoulder joint. Excellent sling for figure 8. Isn't shy to sling 250g stones. Or 50g  Smiley

Tested it out today. Impressions are really good. Loved to use 150-250 gram rocks with it. 50 - 70 gram rocks felt too light
and gave me a soreness, ideally sling needs to be longer for those, although it'll cast them. 150-250 gram gives just the right amount of resistance. Excellent cast without excessive spin
and perfect pouch orientation with figure 8.

Last sling broke. So I made a new one, extra thick, 12 strings. Nicknamed "Beefeater" and its the one on the right.

I've lost the label for it so I am unsure. I remember that I got it from Wal-Mart, and that it was a natural twine, but don't recall what fibers it was made of.
