It's a disaster with tennisballs when its so stiff. But there's hardly any twist in the cords when you rotor a 400g rock. It's fun

Wow that is very stiff! the one I got from him is very supple and not at all rigid. I think he must of worked the fibre wet or soaked the sling afterwards.

I think the temperature difference causes it somewhat. I bought it in the summer. It gets pretty hot there where he lives I think. Now it's winter here, the fibres contract. If I keep it inside the house for a few days it becomes a lot more supple. Normally my slings are in the shack.

I am waiting for mine to arrive. It's been five days but it's felt like an eternity. I'm keeping it a secret until it arrives. Nobody in my household knows!  Grin

That's really quite remarkable stiffness. Did you break it in thoroughly as it could gain a bit more pliability over time?

I wonder if it's a humidity/temperature differential rather than absolute that causes this?

For example if it's braided in the summer on Menorca then is transported to a relatively cold, humid northern European country the braid swells and stiffens up. However, if it was braided in said cold/humid country in the first place there wouldn't be any additional swelling.

All my fibre slings have been braided in the UK and I've not seen any different behaviour using them on the balearics. Though it would be a lie to say that I was really trying to detect any change!

It's becomes very pliable when I take it inside a warm house for a few days.

Way better than my early tries  🍌👍

Same for me, those are really nice slings

And here is what my new balearic sling did to 1,5cm particle board:

Damn that must be a heavy sling...shattered that board on impact.

HMG-yes that is now your new nickname from me- very nice work. How do you like the skinny split pouches? Ive never quite got the knack for them but some people are deadly using them. We had a member that was here for years, really a staple of this forum for a long time whose name was Dan. He loved those skinny splits. Skinny tarred bankline if I remember correctly. He was quite good with them.

It was mostly trial and error. These were some of my prototypes. My final design - of which the only two in existence have been given to my friends - has a far thicker pouch.

I think on the next sling I make I'm going to try splicing material in before the pouch to try and flesh it out.

As for shooting them, I have had trouble with lighter stones; they seem just to fall out. Heavier stones however, just like tennis balls, seem to fit the pouch size and traction far better.

Other than being free from twisting lines, is there any other benefit to using stiffer slings? I have only ever used paracord and lighter jute slings so I'm fairly curios.

I had some cleaner releases with stiffer slings, but that is highly individual. Also i found it easier to control pouch orientation. I would recommend experimenting on your own and finding what suits you. Everyone likes their slings a bit different.
