I saw a photograph from the museum showing a Greek sling and a view pouch alike to this pouch, but, the attachment of the pouch to the ropes was different, so I came to the conclusion that this shape of the pouch was typical for the Greeks.

In the photo you can see how small it is compared to my hand and a 100g stone in the pouch. That is now the shortest sling in my collection of 50 slings

It looks like a Balearic sling, but is constructed differently. The braid is double. And crude fiber was not used. The highest strand number is 48. This is reduced to 6. It is very durable. I have been shooting such a model for 12 years. It withstood tens of thousands of shots well. But it takes me a long time to finish. Unfortunately I have little time for this hobby.

What does it mean that the braid is double? I can see the two distinct sections, but I don't understand how it came to be. Is it some sort of hybrid between a round braid and a flat braid?

Posts: 1707 California Gender:	Re: Pictures of Slings and Slinging Reply #6342 - Jan 14^th, 2021 at 4:40pm If I recall correctly, the retention loop (ring) is a 12 strand fish-tail braid, doubled to the retention cord to be 24 strand fish tail, and then doubled again for the pouch, then tapered on the release cord down to 6 strands.

It's a flat braid. How to know it. It starts on the eye with 12 strands. You start in the middle. If you bring the loop together, 12 strands become 24 strands. The difference. You always put two strands on top of each other. So the braid is double. It is not only very durable but also strong and flexible. It was my idea to work that way. I thought it made sense
