I almost suggested splicing myself but I feel it would be hard to do with natural fibers.
Basically, the idea is to fold back over and feed the ends back thru the links in the braid.
This image shows the idea with twisted cord but I'm sure you'll be able apply the technique to your braid

Thanks Tomas. I tried again today and F'd up pretty bad. I know from left to right it's over, under, over but with a 5 braid I have trouble making it splice flawlessly because I'm splicing into a 5 braid rather than a twisted rope.

I'll keep tryin tho Wink

Maybe you can use a "passe-fil" (don't know the english name, a thread passer ? ) like this one :
...
I made one out of some brass thread, twisted the end in a loop and voilą, it works. It's crude, but working :p

I'll post a video with paracord later this evening:)
I hate splicing BTW but caldou has the right idea. You can us a fid to feed your lines thru or anything with a tapered point like a chopstick.

Is this the 12:30AM meeting for Compulsive Slingmakers Anonymous? I've been told that the first step is admitting that I have a problem...

(The leather boat-sling and one of the rockman-style slings were made in the last 24 hours. I've given away a bunch o' slings and thrown away a bunch more...but the collection continues to grow. :/ )

I've never seen this before. Wow. You made this yourself?

I am impressed and amazed by your collection. I like your tut slings the most because they are the most distant from my abilities and they look great Jareth.

Sorry I never did post the video, I'll get it online tonight.
Wow Jareth, you got quite the learning curve!
I'm really curious about the braided Mason's line material- could I persuade you to trade one to me? Seeing as you got all that overstock! If you are making that many slings and want to continue to experiment, I highly recommend trying a marudai braiding stool/platform. You can create some amazing braids with and it will hold the braid tight instead of making your hands do all the work.

That is colorful  Smiley Nice Don't worry, your braiding will slow down a bit once you get on the wrong side of 65 Grin

Hunts, no I didn't made this one, it's a google image search Smiley
this one seems to be a fisher accessory but to make a simple one you can take some wire, fold it in 2 at around 1/3rd, leave a small loop  and twist the 2 legs together.
Then you feed the loop side along the braided bit (same over/under as when you made it), put the yarn in the loop and pull it out. Rince and repeat with the next thread.

Ah I see, thanks for the information Caldou!

Here is a natural themed sling, but this one has a yellow dacron whip.

The third image has a closeup so you guys can get a better idea of how the dacron is woven into the natural fibers. Hope ya like it. Wink

So, I haven't completed my full marudai bench yet...but I *did* pick up a small braiding disc and have been experimenting a bit...

These are two tut-style slings made from bonded mason line and tarred bankline. The down-cords and release-cords are braided with simple 8-strand kumihimo round braids. Thanks for the suggestion, Tomas!

Nice job dude. Gorgeous. The tie off you make on the whip past the release knot is a tough one to keep from eventually coming apart. Maybe you've found a way that I didn't discover when I made slings like yours.

Great job man, I expected no less!
Huntsman- great job splicing in that tail. Did you get any luck feeding your finger loop back into the braid?

Huntsman,

I've come across a new method of whipping this kind of braid that I *think* should resist coming apart...Obviously, long-term testing will be required. If there is no visible deterioration after a couple of weeks of use, I'll put together a tutorial.

Thanks!
