No problem Ryan.

So here's another one I've been working on that I wanted to share with you guys.

Sisal fiber dyed bright green and black to make a Balearic 25" Sling.

Hope you guys like the color combo!

Here's a historical reference. It's Muiredach's Cross from Monasterboice,Ireland. The panel depicts David and Goliath. Although eroded, the sling is still visible.

So, I have chronic insomnia...and when I can't sleep, I make stuff. Here are a couple of new slings that I put together over the last few days:

They look good Wink
What are you going to do with the short cut offs and what kind of knot are you using for the release?

For these releases, I'm just using a simple overhand knot...After hearing some suggestions on another thread, I'm thinking of trying release-tabs instead.

As for the short cut-offs...I haven't decided yet. I'm thinking about cutting them flush and adding a dab of flexible fabric-glue to keep them from pulling back/unravelling. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Man you rock! I wish my first creations looked as good.
If you do glue the loose ends, make sure your glue dries flexible.

For the synthetic ones what I used to do before I discovered the glorious light of sisal lol, just trim it very close then take a lighter to it careful not to burn the other strands. When it becomes a gew blob of hot plastic blow on it so it's not boiling hot then smoosh it into the fibers with your finger. That usually holds it.

For the hemp or sisal, try twisting each of your groupings as you braid then you can trim and they don't come loose.

Good job on the work finally someone that can take decent photos of their work Tongue

Also I suggest going with a smooth release with no knots it's more accurate in my honest opinion..

Insomnia strikes again! I've been making more of the Egyptian-style woven-pouch slings.

The eye-searingly-bright-neon sling was a proof-of-concept before I bought the #12 tarred braided-nylon bank-line for the second sling. Practicing tapering 4-strand round braids, etc.

Per Huntsman's suggestion, I've stopped putting on release-knots. Thanks!

As always...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Those are museum shelf case nice. Well done Jareth. The first one the finger loop looks like it might hurt after a while. Sew some leather on that thing. I usually cut a piece 3.75" X 1" for my finger loops. Wink

Really quite impressive work dude. Do you even find it challenging? Lol
There are two techniques to making a 4 strand round braid that I know of. One passes one thread at at time and the other passes two at a time. You can hide your loose ends inside as if the braid were hollow if you're working on tapering. That way it looks seamless.
BTW did you use Timothy Potter's tutorial or Hubert's modified tutorial? The Potter version has a deeper cupping in the pouch while Hubert's version is shallower.
I think I'm going make a video today to show you the two techniques for the braid.
Check back later.
BTW kinda jealous of your progress.... I really struggled with the tut design at first
