For the synthetic ones what I used to do before I discovered the glorious light of sisal lol, just trim it very close then take a lighter to it careful not to burn the other strands. When it becomes a gew blob of hot plastic blow on it so it's not boiling hot then smoosh it into the fibers with your finger. That usually holds it.
For the hemp or sisal, try twisting each of your groupings as you braid then you can trim and they don't come loose.

Also I suggest going with a smooth release with no knots it's more accurate in my honest opinion..
