First: Thank you for the nice comments!

Is this the sling yo said you were making a tutorial about Teg? Looks almost like finger weaving but with multiple strands..... But I'm guessing from a mini picture on my phone.  Really nice as always

Yes, that's the one. But it may take some time until I will release the tutorial as this sling opened a door for me into a new world of techniques. I'm trying out several different things with colours, shaping and so on. The technique is not related to finger weaving.

Teg, I'm very fond of the release tab. I don't tend to release any slings I make from the release knot. I usually release a couple of braids below as it's more comfortable. Are there any functional advantages from that type of pouch other than aesthetic? Maybe a slightly better grip?

I neither like release knots and I only make them for special slings. Gripping the braid or a flat tab gives me a much better feeling for the release. I appended a photo of the tab, so that you can see how it was made. The scale is in cm, the width of the tab is 1 cm, the width of the string 3 mm. I expect that this is the point where the sling will break first as the strings at the side are a bit exposed. But we will see...
About the pattern: The stripe in the middle serves as joint as it bends easier in one direction. What you actually see in the above photos is not the side of the stone but the back side of the pouch. Of further importance is also how dense you work (flexibility of the pouch). The rest of the pattern is aesthetics.

My newest (and best) sling to date. I made it this morning as meticulously as I could and I am very pleased to see how much my hard work paid off. It throws like a dream. I've been working on nailing down the perfect size and style of sling for a while and I think I found it in this one.

...

Instead of going by the tutorials I've seen I decided to simplify the process a bit by taking out the more complicated weaving. I started with fig-8 wrap (4 strands on one side, 5 on the other) then moved to 3-3-3, then split the pouch without doing a 2-2-2-3. On the sides of the pouch I did 1-2-1. In other words, I never exceeded three different bundles when weaving if that makes sense. I think it came out a lot neater than mu other attempts. It's awesomely symmetrical too. I'm pleased.

I really like that sling Northwoodsslinger, did you weave it on a loom or by hand?
Teg- I look forward to seeing that tutorial:) how do you find this technique to weaving? Is it more time consuming?

Thanks!

I rigged up a makeshift weaving board (if that' the correct term) out of cardboard and two screws. Very crude, but it works really well.

hehehe I can do that kind of sling without a loom:)
Try just putting the retention cord onto some sort of peg or hook. I have 2 places- 20 feet off the ground in a tree.. I even built a little table up there- enough room for tea and some cord, and then a handle on my dresser. I actually have worn off and refinished that handle 2 times... sisal...
Its easier than a weaving loom/board. Its more stable and allows you to exert more force....
Allowing tighter weaving and braiding.

I feel like I have no control when I weave that way. It ends up sideways haha

I guess that the time you need is comparable to weaving. However, as this are "knots", you don't have to have a tight grip on the finished work. So it's a bit more pleasant to work with it when you are on the move. The tutorial will follow somewhen this summer/autumn. It's in my head but I still need to write it down.

There's a lot of beautiful slings being made by relatively new slingers. It's obvious that a lot of time, effort and thought have gone into their creation.  Cool
I felt like I needed a new sling, but didn't want to invest much time or thought. It ain't pretty, but  I made it in less than 20 minutes and works well, easy to stuff in a pocket and I don't care if it gets wet and muddy. I like it  Smiley

My pocket slings-
Top- raffia
next down- leather and nylon, from Timu
Next- ROckman by Huntsman
Bottom- paracord and deer hide by me. I have an apache in my pocket. The paracord/deer hide is one of my faves cause its fast, accurate, and powerful.

Here is my current sling, I guess it is technically 3.0. It is just left over denim from jeans and I used the butterfly, boat template.

This is my backyard where I sling. The netting is about 20 feet across, I think. The little flower pot is my target. Right now I am practicing from about only 25 feet away. My yard migh t let me double that distance, but I don't think my accuracy will.

My slings used the most-
...
...
...
...

Loaded with lighter stone. The stone in the bottom of the pics goes with the deer-hide slings, most of the pieces weight little(around 2 oz) because those are light slings with light stone for accuracy and beginning slingers.
The rockman is almost worn out, look at the release tassel.
The green and black with leather pouch sling is from timu. I haven't used it much.
The stone leaded into the rockman weighs about 7 oz and is potatoe shaped.
The stone loaded into Timu's sling weighs a little less... it is some super heavy rock IMO... ive got no idea what it is.
The balaric is jute loaded with clay bicones.
The ammo at the top is literally dirt.
I just went outside, dug down a foot, dug up about 5 pounds of material, took it on the deck, then rolled it up. No screening, there is still some lumps of mulch etc in it... but they still sling good.
