Something I've wanted to try is the fast sequence mode on my camera.  Basically it keeps taking them until you let go of the button.  Could make for some interesting shots.

Here's an alternate method of tieing a sheepshank sling.  Normally, you would form an "S" in the bight of a line, throw on a half-hitch at each small bight of the "S", then tuck the working ends through the bights, transforming into 2 bowlines, making it a "locked" sheepshank.

My way uses an extra bight, or 2 "S's" stacked, allowing for quick weave through the 5 cradle lines...I can report that it's great for throwing apples & oranges...or, tie a couple of constrictor knots inboard of the bowlines to adjust for size of projectile.

...

OMG!  Just a short time ago, tonight, I posted my introduction, and I also linked to a tutorial I made that employs the 5-cradle-line design that you just described!  Shocked

I learned the woven sheepshank one from a member of EDCForums called "Stormdrane" (He's amazing with paracord projects, I mean really really good!) but I found the pouch didn't satisfy me with its width, so I started to tinker.  Very quickly (it surprised me!) I came up, on my own, with the 5-cradle-line version.  Wow!  I had spent a little time wondering if anyone else had ever devised the same thing.  (I should've known better.  Cheesy )

Blue skies,

I've been idly tinkering with a 2 loop sheepshank and a woven pouch, starting with a 2-1-2 warp then 1-1-1-1-1 for the main pouch bit and finishing with 2-1-2 again, it seems to make quite a deep pouch.

Kava fiend, you have some very good looking slings. Do you make them yourself?

Beautiful work,Kava!Did you check out Rockman's slings in the toilet video? Those things look as if there was some work involved. Also,Willeke has a lot of skill with intricate braids and knots. It must be time consuming, but the effort is worth it,no?I suppose I will take the time this winter to braid one,if my large hands and small brain can tackle a project like these slings you build.

Thanks,

cheers guys, thanks for the comments.  Cheesy

in answer to the questions: yep Rockman, I make them all myself. The techniques are a combination of hand braiding and/or kumihimo for the cords and plain weaving/soumak wrapping for the pouches. My prefered style of pouch would be the split pouch because of aesthetic and practical reasons. Jax - yeah bro they look like a bit of work, but the sling design can be as complex or simple as you wish, it just depends on the braiders skill and imagination, the main thing about making a textile sling is that i can really stress is it just takes a lot of time to complete one. but give it a go dude, I think you would be pleasantly surprised at what you can come up with!

Nice braid work Kava!

Rockman, you might want to start with a Chain Hitch type braided split pouch sling as described in the Articles section.  Very simple "braid" that looks good and goes quickly...

Here's a sling I made a few days ago.

It's made with UAC paracord, with a 5-strand cradle based on the "sheet bend" design.

The finger loop uses a "Longbow Knot," and the release knot is an Ashley's Stopper Knot.
