here's a new one for me. a six strand braided flax split pouch with buckskin sewn in. the release cord is tapered with an antler bead. 28" overall.

Very nice looking. Did you braid around the buckskin thongs or did you sew it through afterwards?

I would do the pouch the other way round, i.e. with the rough side of the leather facing away from the braid and then using it as the inside of the pouch, so the braids dont touch the ammo. I would also use some wrapping to protect the release cord.

Jaegoor: nicely done. It looks like a very original design, with basically two cords left free, but assembled where necessary by binding. Very economic !

thanks, David. i sewed through the braid (using a bone needle Wink) . i considered doing it the way you suggest, but i liked the look of it this way and having the braids on the inside helps hold the ammo i think. i've already put several dozen stones through it and, so far, no signs of wear. that buckskin is pretty durable stuff.

those are nice slings.   when you sling with the split pouch ones does the pouch clump together from the force?

Thanks echelon7!! The pouch does tend to clump up somewhat from the force. To minimize that, I tightened everything up as much as I could.

8 strand, fairly conventional braided sling. Done in kangaroo thong (western red, not eastern grey).

Fill-in of pouch is done in traditional indig. aussie "twist-spacing" fashion, infinitely more resilient than it looks but will need some reworking over time. Could have locked it off tight as a fish but using natural stone I need a bit of "range" as far as stretch and whatnot.

Overall length around 3.5 feet, light weight target job. Has now been appropriated by my other half. Note to self - cook breakfast more often Wink

"paracord" 6 strand open style. Quite long, trying to work out the best size for my frame, this one is close at 5 foot 3 inches or so. Large arc but really puts them out there.

Open rail-pouch style not ideal for some I know but suits many of the rough, spindle shaped natural stones I use.

Note: at 6 foot 4, this sling is seemingly around 4 or 5 inches too long... just a LITTLE too much build up for the amount of snap it provides me. Originally sized from the tip of my toe to the top of my upraised arms, by 6. Little left over but not a lot.

A mate of Cypriot background knocked up this quicky style using pure cotton candle wicking I had laying around.

Around 2.5 feet, very snappy but light for its length. Pouch settles to business end, went to readjust but was told "leave it, it's what it wants to do" and accuracy/reach was largely unaffected.

this is my paracord king tut sling.  i reduced some of the weave because of the thickness of paracord and made this.  there was hemp whipping but it made a little mistake and went over it with electrical tape.  its works very well and the cordage is thin which i like. good sling.  i think the picture makes the pouch look slightly lopsided but its just because it has a very round and nice cup to it.  as ive said before king tut are my favorite.

I decided to make another 6-Hole pouch,I keep accidentally giving them away.Nothing braided or fancy, just weed wacker starter cord and a $0.40 piece of leather from the scrap bins at Hobby Lobby.

I'm not throwing the cricket ball with this sling, just added it for size perspective. It did fit nicely, though.
