Here are 3 of the slings I use.  Two I made and the other one can be reconnized as the world famous aussiesling.  one is about 32+ inches and the other one around 20"

My favourite sling broke a few years ago. Since then I have not done much slinging, mostly because I have moved, a lot of work had to be done around the house, etc, but also very much due to the fact that I hate doing a sloppy job when I make something!

Recently I found some leather that would be excellent for slings; about 2 mm thick, soft and pliable but with very little stretch. So I finally made myself a new sling! (And two more like it for my sons)
I´d like you to see a picture of it.

The pouch is 6.5 cms wide, and  +30 cms long end to end. The ends of the pouch have an extra layer of stiffer 1.5 mm leather between the others, for added stability & strength. The strings are 4 mm 8-strand braided polyester, with virtually no stretch at all. I made the finger loop from a leather strap, to distribute the load on the finger better and reduce chafing and discomfort on the finger. All string loops are spliced, sewn and whipped, all leather seams hand stitched. (Yes, I did want this sling to be realiable) The length from my fingers to bottom of pouch is 75 cms, which means that when I am standing up with arm hanging down, the pouch clears the ground with about 3 cms.

Since we had a surprise fall of about 40 cms of snow overnight I have not been able to test it properly – it´s hard to look for stones. I used one stone (200 grams) and two 120-gram chunks of lead that were lying around my workshop to make 3 test throws just to feel what the sling was like. The three throws were approximately 25, 40 and 70 metres – with all three impacts in a more or less perfectly straight line! The unbroken snow surface made it easy to see the impacts. (I am so looking forward to spring! )

The width (about 6.5 cm) is simply a width I know I have been very comfortable with before - and which is recommended in a few places here on slinging.org, I might add! The length of it (+30 cm) may seem unnecessary long, but I wanted the pouch to be a little cupped but not very much. As I wanted the leather strips to fully overlap at the string hole this is more or less the length I ended up with! The size of the pouch does not seem to give me any problems with air resistance - at least not in the first test throws and the "empty" test swings I have made.

Have not been able to test it more, but it sure felt and worked nice on those first three throws!
