That was releasing much later than I expected it to do, and it was really zapping those stones out...

I don’t have any guess what the actual release angle is. The tipping of the pouch is progressive on this version, but on the next prototype I will incorporate an adjustment similar to the #1 staff including a more abrupt tipping action to the pouch. The golf balls slung today had minimum backspin due to this particular pouch design which is a modified sidearm pouch.. The new pouch will be tweaked for slightly more backspin but there is a practical limit to this.

It's a 4 strand round braid made with 3 light colored strands and 5 darker strands. After the finger loop, I arranged the 16 strands so that the lighter 6 were on one side and the darker 10 on the other. Then I just made 2 sets of each color and diamond braided the cord. walter

That's walmart hemp jewelry cord. They call it Fashion cord. Close to $4 a roll, but you can make several slings from one roll and use it for whipping. I gave up on the heavier stuff (for a while anyway) cause it's pressed not twisted and there are so many splices that aren't really splices. Just pressed together so anywhere a section of cord joins another (a lot of that), there is a nice two inch long or more lump. Sad

This does a couple of things I have been meaning to try for a while. It is a leather ladder pouch with braided jute cords that have a small loop braided into the end for easy knotless attachment to the pouch. It is made just like a braided fingerloop and one side tapers away after a couple of inches to a slim three strand braided cord.

At the moment there is no finger loop in the other end, the retention cord is about 10" longer than the release cord and is wound in a figure-8 between the ring and little fingers for a very secure grip. This is how a Navajo guide I spoke to described using his sling as a kid. I'll see if I like it, and if I dont I can just tie a normal fingerloop into it.

David, do you like the ladder back better than the cupped pouch? If I get a hold of some thicker leather, I'll give it a try.

Here's another cupped pouch/paracord sling. Thirty three inches; 2 x 5 inch pouch.

Made this one up this am. Reverse twist 550 paracord; leather cupped pouch; finger loop is sewn and then wrapped with hemp and release cord knots are whiplash knots. Sling is 31.5 " long.

Nice slings. Yes, I'm liking the ladder pouch with thick leather. I was chucking crushed rock for road and railway ballast a few days ago, no problems. For a tough throw-anything sling its a good option.

Tried out this Timothy Potter design xxkid123 posted under the heading "A Good Sling". Looks like it will be great for lead glands! Going to give it a whirl a little later today.
