when you say "hunting" and "fish" i think of spear fishing, personally i don't consider any other type as hunting and certainly not fishing with rods or nets . anyone agree? probably splitting hairs a bit Embarrassed Smiley

fishing is hunting - why wouldn't it be. You prepare your 'weapons' you stalk your prey, you catch your prey and you kill and prepare it.

In what way would you not consider it hunting ? essentially with rod and line you're using the same materials involved in a bow - just different configuration :-)

Are fish traps any less hunting than pit or stake traps for boar or snares for rabbits. This is all hunting :-)

What kind of weapon do you use to hunt shellfish?? And how do you display them on the wall?

I voted for non of the above, which is still correct, (fish are placed below) but I did catch a fish, once, but did release it and never fished for an other one.
But I did catch prawns as a child, helped killing, cleaning and eating them.

Displays of hunting thropies is just bad taste, eating is what counts.
And as my sister claimed today, we have 'hunted' wild berries too  Wink

[quote author=curious_aardvark link=1171348088/0#10 date=1171547968]fishing is hunting - why wouldn't it be. You prepare your 'weapons' you stalk your prey, you catch your prey and you kill and prepare it.

In what way would you not consider it hunting ? essentially with rod and line you're using the same materials involved in a bow - just different configuration :-)

what i mean is that fishing uses a lure so all you do is sit back and wait, no great skill involved there :), (though fly fishing i'll admit does require more than most) the same with using snares, traps etc,  in none of these do you actively hunt your quarry. i don't deny how effective they are in terms of energy used and food aquired but by definition you don't 'hunt' salmon with a rod,not in the way you hunt  deer.
maybe definition is the key word and my definition of hunting differs.oh well, vive le differance!  ;)

yep the best hunters are those who can make themselves look, sound and smell like a tree.
Always much easier to let the animal come to you than the other way round :-)
