Depends very much on where you live.  Different nations, different states/commonwealths/provinces/whatever, different counties, different towns, all may have different rules.

You would do well to use Google and look up the civil and criminal codes where you live.

Interesting!  Let me see, you hold the angled stick, and the white cords rest on your fore-arm and keep the slingshot from flipping back out of your hand.  You pull the elastic back, aim, and let fly.  You probably have your fore-arm raised a bit, rather than pointing straight at the target.  Right?

intresting design loh ka hoe but wouldn't it be easyer to do this with a metal bar of lets say 5mm thick and bend it in a simmular shape? so that you have an armbrace that comes together into a handle moving upwards and then again splits in to the forks.

i know this is a bit iffy on description but i'm pretty sure i saw my grandad (or someone my memory has deserted me for a moment) with a design like it..but i'll try and get my scanner working to punch you up a sketch if you like Grin

When held, the cords brace against my forearm to take away the stress and keep the extended fork from turning around. My forearm is kept completely straight and it does most of the jobs. It does not pull parellel to the platform. It's comfortable to shoot. Smiley

I don't know how to bend steel..... That's why. I dreamt of making such slingshot too. Something similar to this?

This is a commercial slingshot very long ago. It's called the nightstalker. I don't own this.

So those two wooden blocks are to hold the elastic bands up away from the slingshot, when you have tension on it?

Yes, the two triangular blocks are for keeping the elastic from hitting the middle of the slingshot. The elastic will rest on them. But, my elastic is badly damaged by the corrosion against the blocks after some shots. I have to use string to connect the elastic to the tips. The angle of the handle is the most important part. It's cut 60 degrees. I spent a few days to make this.....

Taiki, post that sketch.  Smiley

for bending steel i think you can work it easyer if you heat it or get more leverage to bend it

Any chance of  apicture with the slingshot being held as it just looks weird to me :-)

I can bend steel, 'course I can leap over tall buildings with a single bound as well (damn, just given away my secret identity - have to get new glasses now)
You might want to try a plumbing supply store as they have things called pipe benders that make bending cylindrical metal quite easy and are fairly cheap and easy to use.

Now that I saw the pictures I think I finally know what the slingshots look like that are illegal by the german law. The law here says you are not allowed to have slingshots that rest on your arm. (At least that is how I understood it).

Edited:
Here is the text from the law:
http://bundesrecht.juris.de/waffg_2002/BJNR397010002.html
Quote:

I don't have a camera right now. Even if I have, it's quite difficult to take it's picture. So, I immediately drew it. The actual way of holding is to hold it diagonally. This is just to give you the idea how it is held. Wink

<a href="http://www.bilder-hosting.de/show/PFF5F.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.bilder-hosting.de/img/PFF5F.gif" border="0" alt="kostenlos Bilder hochladen"></a>

Although  wierd, it packs a punch. I removed the balloon band and replaced with a heavy gum rubber band set. It could put .50 lead sinkers completely through soda cans at 4.5 metres. It's very tiring for the shoulder.

You can see the original one in this website, under photo- slingshots- bill herriman, then 'shooting stars'. http://www.melchiormenzel.de/ I used his dimensions to make one for myself. It's a great design.

The kind banned in Germany are those with wrist-brace. The brace enables the user to handle heavier bands. From what I read somewhere, the german rioters used these wrist-braced slingshots to put holes in helicopters with lead shots, thus they were banned. Roll Eyes

good drawing - it all makes sense now :-)

Well if anyone in germany wants a braced slingshot - barnett make loads of different models and weirdly they are legal in england (most weapons aren't)
Sure we could work a trade :-)

The problem is not getting the slingshot. If I'd want to have one I guess I'd build one like Loh Kah Hoe built. I really liked its simple look. The problem is I don't want to be accused for illegal weapon possession once a picture appears where I am holding it. So I guess I will stick to slings and maybe someday staff slings. They are legal as far as I know.
