Happy slinging 2005
Dec 31st, 2004 at 12:58pm

...

Happy slinging for all in the 2005, specially for the old friends like Yurek, Johnny, Ulrica, Mgreenfield, David-T, Chris, Dan Bollinger, Matthias, etc, etc, that have seen how the forum has grown. For all this famous illustration of Ballearic slingers in the battle of Cannas, throwing stones against the Romans.
Notice the three slings, the bag for stones and the typically spanish short sword called "falcata"

Long live to the sling!!

I am finding hard to believe how far this site has came. People from all over the world have contributed to this web site to make all slinger everywhere better. I just wonder what this site will be like in the next year or two. How much more will it grow? Hopfully a lot.
Have a safe new year.

I also am amazed at the 'critical mass' this site has achieved even from the time I started frequenting the site!  This year, 2005 may come to be known as the year of flying rocks.  If not for slinging....then perhaps for other reasons:

'Natural' Disasters are on the increase and though we all have our own preferences as to the cause,  I wish all of you a productive year!

GOD bless

Thanks Hondero!

Happy New Year to you and everyone. Very interesting picture to a collection.

Yeach, the slinging community grows more and more, so I hope we won't need to wear hemlets in this year, due to flying stones all around Grin

Happy slinging!

Jurek

In the shape, structure and position of each stone, there is recorded a small piece of history. So, slinging them, we add a bit of our history to them.

Mgreenfield,
the illustration is from a book of OSPREY, serie CAMPAIGN and title CANNAE 216 BC. The author of the illustration is Angus McBride (Johnny knows him personally). I think it can be scanned and enlarged.

David,
Feliz Aņo Nuevo, tu espaņol es excelente. Has progresado mucho. Enhorabuena !!

Tech,

"Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent!!"
Grin Grin I heard that one day on the radio and recorded it so I could memorize it and repeat it with great passion. What a great story. For those who may not have heard it, I just ruined it for you, but it is fun to repeat.

Hey,  I figure it's 2005 and all......and since I feel a bit 'watsonish' given how I squandered much of 2004 coasting on my arse......

I chose that joke for it's universal humor and it's analogous depth.   In effect....I guess I am saying: "Hey world, 'Sherlock' called."  "He says were all idiots and 'someone' is stealing our tent!"

Here's to an interesting 2005 to all and don't let anyone steal your tents!

Happy new year fellow slingers. May your cords never fray!

Reminds me of when Thorin was toasting to Bilbo in The Hobbit:
"May the hair on his toes never fall out!"
