Wood burning stove

I am going on a camping trip for a couple of weeks in the summer and I would really like to take a fairly portable (to fit in a small car) wood burning stove. I was wondering if any of you sages of the outdoor life know how to make one? I want to make one because open fires are not allowed at many of the places I will be staying. However, I like affordability and environmentally friendly nature of burning wood. Any help would be much appreciated.

When its assembled its big enough to hold a decent size camp pot. I'll see if I can get a pic for you.

Right you are, bigkahuna! Or, Coops, you might try a steel pail or bucket. You would probably have to drill a bunch of holes in the sides of the bucket near the bottom to get proper airflow.
Since open fires are not allowed where you are going to be, a big roaring campfire is out of the question, but that is not neccesarily a bad thing. I have done a lot of 18th century reenacting for the American Revolution period. ( We get all dressed up in knee breeches and three cornered hats and shoot our flintlock muskets at those British Redcoats [ Bloody Lobsters!]) At virtually all of the campsites I've been to, all of the 18th century cooking is done over coals, rather than big roaring flames. Thus you could put 4 or 5 sticks no bigger than 2 to 3 inches in diameter and about 6 inches long in the bucket and this would throw a lot of heat. Although a tomahawk is traditional, you might find a small camper's saw more convenient to use. You can get steel buckets at the hardware store. They are generally galvanized, but the zinc plating will burn off quickly and that is OK.

   As I live right about in the center of New England, I have marched with the Concord Minutemen for several years, and also
I have done other events in this area. I've also been up to Fort Ticonderoga and The Fort at No. 4. Most people know about Ticonderoga but #4 is not well known. Try googling them for their web site. It is a wonderful place!
