Any fencers?
May 20th, 2006 at 9:56pm

Hey I was just wondering if there were any other fencers on the forum. Any kind of fencing.  Sport fencing, Japenese, ARMA ect. I fence foil and Sabre and was wondering if there were any other fencers.

  En garde, David!
Actually, I did a little fencing ( french foil ) many years ago at college, but it has been a long time. The field has certainly expanded since then, what with groups like ARMA doing research.
I have a Talwar and a M1917 Naval Cutlass, both from Cold Steel,
and I like them a great deal, but I have not had time to really work out with them.
A while back, there was a group at the Higgens Armoury Museum in Worcester, Mass. ( ARMA, I think ) teaching the two handed longsword. Worcester is not too far for me, but again, my work schedule is difficult.
Hey,Slingers! Anybody else into swords??                  .......Dan

Hello David,

i used to fence, almost 2 years ago now  Sad

Medieval fencing, in armour. It was so cool !

I practiced in Belgium at that time, but i had to move and now i am in south of France, so i have the sun, but bye bye fencing...

Regards

Joseph

PS: PM me your mail if you want, so i can send you a couple of pics

I went to this place

http://swordforge.org/events/2006cb/overview.php

saturday.

Did some long sword fenceing (its interesting each defence is an attack and each attack is a defence)

That irish stick fighting was very cool too (they have you move in odd ways to do that. odd but they work)

the tomahawk and longknife with super fun, the enstructor even helped me out with I33 alittle. real nice guys i must of tryed the same thing 40 times and no one got flusterd.  Smiley

If Kali counts as fencing, then I am a fencer. I like machete and cleaving blades in general more than rapier and similar toothpick-type weapons...

Count me in too. I fenced quite a bit before University, and for the first couple of years after moving to Vancouver. None since then, but I still have a couple of épées, masks and gloves stored away. Last time the gear saw action was when I had a hornet's nest to deal with...

The operative part of the sentence being "run you through". I'm pretty sure that would be unpleasant.

I've always been a great fan of fencing.  I think I could be a great champion as I already have much experience at the sport's distant cousin,  fence sitting.

Verbal dueling... sigh... I love this sport. I am pretty good - once I turned some Yahwe witness' head so much he forgot what he wanted to tell me. Grin I am sure it was something about waking up and joining them or going to hell...

Actually,  fence sitting....is the timeless art of using any of life's distractions at hand to avoid having to choose which side of the fence one must invariably land on when the balance act is over.

Verbal dueling?  I wouldn't know....?

     Willeke,
Are you admitting, then, that you have a "sharp tongue?"
I think I would rather face a steel blade.
Actually, I work in a hospital laboratory; 90% of my co-workers are women. Many times I have told them how lucky they are to have someone like me as a co-worker, with my calm demeanor and pleasant disposition. I then chide them for taking advantage of my
simple nature. Everytime I tell them this, they laugh as if I were telling a joke. ???
Oh, well.......the way they treat me is NOTHING compared to the way they treat each other!
                                                                                .......Dan

Worst place I ever worked was with mostly women.
It was less bad when one of the men worked near or with us but women among themselfs are often pure hell for a few within the group.

I do well in mixed compagny or with just males. But with just females I keep real quiet.
