With manrikigusari, everything is an OW point. I know Lips Sealed

. But it is true that getting hit into bone is pure agony, while getting hit into muscle is only impure agony...
Having some training under your belt is helpful. At least you can suprise somebody who think you would use only the manrikigusari. It is the same like with a knife, you know - your opponent concentrates on the weapon and shin kick springs from nowhere...

while i was over at the hardware store yesterday, i remembered this post and the others discussing what sort of chain to use. i decided to check to see if they had this chain, for future reference in case i wanted to make one, and just to know what sort of chain this was.
so i found it on their chain rack, and i was surprised at how large it was. i expected the chain to be perhaps 1/2 as large as it is, for lightness and ease of use. i suppose you don't even need the weights on the ends, just flail a bit of chain around. but then again, i am sure that the weights help quite a bit

siguy, didn't you mistake the chain for some other size? No. 3 machine chain has pretty small links, about 2 cm (little over 3/4") long. That is too small and light to use without weights. You won't stop anybody with it - not if he's in an adrenaline rush. Add a weights and it will change... Kasumi, two swings, multiple fractures... Shocked

no, i made no mistake of the size (judging from your description and a double checking of the labels after seeing the size of the chain). i have a peice of chain of similar size, and i find that it is a little painful just swinging it around my hand to make a quick knuckle duster type thing. an idea in my head just now: i have some chain, and i can find some weights and build a manriki of my own. what was used for weights in the first pic, and the connectors as well? i am interested in making one of these

If I remember correctly, handles on Fritz's MG are ground from rod and connectors are made from little thingies that look like eyelets, except they are longer and don't have any threading. Fritz bent them and stuffed the plain end through the eye, then brazed it securely. Whatever you use for the connection, make sure it is more abuse-proof than anything else on the MG, otherwise you are going to put one handle on a high orbit

I don't know who said that but it rings true . Does everybody on this thread have the book "Spike and Chain" ? It has very usefull info on constructing a MG plus has pictures of more .

I've found that a MG with weights like a handle hurts the hand less when swinging and impacting targets. I have a MG that has weights close to a ball shape. Hitting anything with it causes pain to the hand from the links . A weight 3.5 inches or so avoids this problem . My MG has dimensions simular to the one described in "Spike and Chain"

I've got problems with my computer and need a good program to fix it thus there are several members on this site that can supply a copy . If not I'll send one Grin

Stenny isn't kidding when he says to bring a shovel. If one comes apart in your hand just hope it doesn't hit someone in the head. You'll need a big drill then Shocked
