Voila! Instant wooden maul!

Why not make an armentum?? It's easy. All it is is a javelin ( with or without a metal head. Wooden points work) About 2 feet from the butt, drill a hole. Put a leather thong through it. Wrap the thong around the shaft, leaving room to hold the end.
Grap the end and throw it overhand. Hold onto the end. As the thong unwinds, it starts the shaft spinning, making for a better throw. The tricky part is knowing when to let go of the end.

This weapon goes back to the Pelopennisian Wars. (did I spell that right?) and was in use until Rome fell. The one I made flies dead on, but I have to work on distance
