I started summer this year.  That makes me one hell of a noob.  I started at fifteen.  I first heard about it from the david and goliath.  Then one of my friends showed me a sling that he made.  In the summer I was trying to make a bow out of bamboo  . I found some string in the closit.  I strung the bow pulled it back and it craked in half and hit me on the head.  So i went to keep the string back in the closit.  That's when I saw an old pair of jeans in the closit and that made me thought and thats where I was cutting up the jeans and slinging tennis balls around the garden.

I have been slinging since 1995. I also started to use and make bolas along with the sling at the same time.

I started in 2001 after reading the book Redwall by Brian Jacques.  One of the pictures above the chapters had a picture of a sling and Jacques actually described a little how it was used, so I had to fill in the blanks for myself.

I was first intoduced to slingings be a welder friend of mine at the trade school. He would sling out at break. Then i picked up a magazine called the Backwoods Man. They have a lot have good articles from primative things to blacksmithing and gun collecting. They had a pretty long article on slings in one months issue. I must have read that article a thousand times. Well the person who wrote it desirves the credit for me starting. I don't remember his name but I owe him a lot.

Roughly 10 years.  There was a rerun of the movie "King David" on TV.  I taped it and saw the slinging scenes over and over.  Cut an old sock up and made my first sling that night.

first started slinging in 1978. just putsz with it till 1994 until i read cliff savages book from then on i have been avidly hooked
