I was checking out some of the info on staff slings. They seem to be a little on the bulky side and not so accurate at close range. How about a staff sling about two maybe three feet long max. Make the anchor cord about six to eight inches long, Make the trigger cord the full staff length so you can still manual release with full control. Use the apache style throw. With your arm extended the stone would be at almost a five foot radius right from the start. A small "V" or "U" shape may have to be added on the forward side of the staff to keep the cords allined. I plan to utillize a broken fishing pole, excellent hand grip. Another possiblity a staff that connects right to your existing sling. Let me know if anyone has tried it.

i have made one of these. they will work but i dont much like them. My staff sling is also a walking stick, a digging stick (a big digging stick) and a quarter staff. and if i ever felt the need to do so i think i could tie something to one end of the sling and have a short pole flail.

I would rather use the hand sling than a small staff sling in battle.

Interesting observation, dork.
I have experimented with the staff sling at length. It is a largely underestimated contrivance. Much potential to be found...

I was thinking about a one handed staff sling a little while ago. If you are like me and have no luck/skill with the bamboo stone thrower, a one handed staff sling is the solution. It may actually be more powerful because it has both the non-bendy staff part, and the flexible sling.

Tech,
Come on now, share some of your secrets! When you say there is much potential to be found, I know it actually means you have made some kickass staff slings in your spare time..........

In the Renaissance book Bellafortis, by Konrad Keyser, ther is a picture of a very short staff sling. The actual staff part looks to be under a foot long.

Would you still call it a staff sling? Or maybe a stick sling?

Tint, thanks for your interest! I think it's fair to say I haven't exactly been 'stingy' here on the forum......relatively speaking.
One's circles of trust, indeed...one's spheres of influence, should maintain a variety of appropriate diameters...and some things are better left, if but for a moment, to the imagination.
