Mar 11th, 2005 at 1:36pm

Hi. I am new here but I am interested in all primitive weapons.
I have a question abaut yo-yos.
When they were so fency I was playing with it but I heard that they were used by Japans or someone in battles. They had blades or something like that on it.
So...please post if someone know anything abaut it and I love to see many pictures Smiley

bye

I have seen that in movies, video games  and some cartoons from Japan.  But I think it is mostly fictional Undecided.

I believe yo yos were used as weapons in the Phillipines, and perhaps other parts of south east Asia.

I saw a so-called "battle yoyo" on a website.  It was basically a yoyo with spikes.    It was dropped from the top of a tree or other height.  It came back fairly slowly if you missed, and didn't come back of it's own accord if you hit.

i dont know i think that i would rather have it unwound and swing the thing around like a chain weapon. how much power could you get by just using it like you use a normal yo-yo?

Well, if you threw it hard out of a tree, with spinning wooden spikes flailing around, then I think you could easily kill someone.

Those battle yo-yo things look VERY nasty. Those spikes if dropped at height would easily find their way into eyesockets and other nasty places, but if you just put something heavy on a regular yo-yo and do that stupid launch forward thingy, you can probably do someone abit of damage. You'd look hilarious though.

I think it is a better idea to make a yoyo out of basalt, or rose quartz because it is very heavy and hard and it will likely crack your skull.
spikes might not be a good idea... if it comes back and skewers your hand

Yeah, in a bar brawl I'd definitely hesitate to take out a yoyo. A granite/basalt/quartz/whatever else yoyo would just not work, I think.

a little history of the yo-yo http://www.spintastics.com/HistoryOfYoYo.asp

The yo-yo is one of the oldest toys. Yo-yo's have been used as a toy for over 2,500 years, when the ancient Romans played with wooden and metal yo-yo's. The word "yo-yo" may come from Tagalog language (the language of the Philippines), meaning "to come back."

so it could be that some roman kid had a sling and a yo-yo in his pouch
