slings in fiction

I felt the use of slings in Larry Niven's book 'Lucifer's Hammer', really apt. They were being threatened by cannibalistic urban marauders sweeping towards camp and defended themselves by making chemical projectiles out of plaster of paris balls filled with mustard gas. Delivery was the sling! Best to all you slingers, Peter.

Huh, interesting.  I wonder how they got the gas inside plaster balls though...

Shhhhh.... suspension of disbelief is a critical part of reading many accounts of slinging prowess.... Wink

I've read the book but don't remember the sequence at all! maybe I'll dig it up. If it turs out I _haven't_ read it, thanks for pointing out a new Niven.

Lol i was thinking the same, though  mustard gas is  liquid,  i was wondering how would they got/made it, also it would be very dangerous to handle, (i.e. filling the projectiles carrying, storing.... is plaster hermetic to mustard gas? (at least it absorb moisture)
