I used a six ounce piece of riverworn granite. Shaped like a football. My sling is about 40 inches long. It only took about 10 minutes to make. I used two 50 inch pieces of non stretchy spectra cord(I took it out of my rappelling supplies, I use it to secure gear) and a piece of 2.5 inch wide nylon strap. Like a backpack strap only a little wider. That stuff is indestructable. I cut it down, cut holes for the cord. Added two brass grommets to spread the load of the cord. Used a lighter on the whole rig. Then bam. That's it.

How is the ultraviolet light resistance for spectra?

Knoll, I'm not really sure. I think its pretty good. Some of my climbing ropes are made of the same stuff. To be a climbing rope you have to pass certain test.

English in regard to hunting your pest mink
I would not bet on them being far away  mink are nocturnal I have only seen them at dusk and dawn and then only rarely they are a small target though.
here is my suggestion to find out if they are in your area
obtain some mink musk find a small stream that has a lot of muskrats  once this is done find a very muddy spot  make a pocket in the bank. Then in the back of the pocket  throw a dead fish back  Maybe even tie some feathers on a limb above the pocket so they blow in the wind squirt a little mink musk in there and go away come back every couple of days to look for tracks in the mud
I have found mink on streams right in the middle of big cities before any way make a bunch of these in different areas you will find mink

Mink are nasty little critters, with more fight per ounce in them, than anything else I can think of.    Imagine a small bad-tempered ferret on a huge drug overdose of uppers in a dogfight.   mgreenfield

Well, that plan would work except for this fact: Muskrat don't live in England.  It would be nice if they did though - lovely animals.   Maybe it would be the same with regular old rats.  Plenty of those.  And I despise rats.

well mink still explore creeks by nature and they always check out their own musk not to mention fluttery feathers
lack of muskrats just makes it a little more dificult is all

I wouldn't have thought many game keepers in England would know about mink trapping, but who knows?  I don't know many game keepers (I think of them just like the pigs - sorry, the police - and don't associate with either.)

No offence but its probably a good idea to be nice to police and police type peoples. That way when a crackhead breaks into your house and shanks your dog, they will come when you call them.

Just a thought, like any job there are nice cops and some are assholes.
