This is a great article.. I think study of this could lead to understanding the sling. This is in fact a mechanized staff sling.
It includes much analysis.

That is a great little program. I used the Mac version years ago to design an all steel treb which works almost as well as I planned. The simulator really works a lot of bugs out of the design before actual construction.
Don tends to get pretty math-crazy in all his articles, but you can't argue with results!

That is quite cool, but I'm wondering when on earth, and where on earth, you could use a trebuchet that, for example, hurls bowling balls over tree tops. It would be cool if you had assholes for neighbours, though, if you scaled it down some.

We have someone in town that made a trebuchet with a 22 ft swing arm. They fire gallon milk containers. They fill them with water, wrap the container in gauze, set it on fire and launch it aflame. Then it explodes when it hits the ground and puts out the fire.

HA how stupid!
They must be filled with kerosene then the fire will last longer!
