Most air resistant?  I'd think most aerodynamic. Wink

That is what I was going to say.  I was expecting a great big fat-corded blobby pouch.

Fine-string-sling construction seems to be a great idea, but I made a couple and they were awful to use.

No obvious performance improvement.  Lots of problems w strings tangling after every shot.  I think you have to use a cord with some resistance to bending and twisting.  I've settled on 1/8" nylon cord as "standard".

I like "no-twist" construction as well if I can pull it off. I wonder how the aircraft-cable "super-slings" work from this perspective. Also got me thinking about using an even stiffer retention cord with a limp release?

I was thinking about back-spin - cords on a sling twist and spin the stone, so in a sling with smaller cords the backspin would be almost negligible.  So perhaps accuracy would suffer, or something along those lines.  The cords would have no purchse on the stone.

I have been thinking about asymmetrical slings for a long time but I haven't made one yet.  One of the things I was thinking of was using lose horse hair for the release.

What do you think?

Lol, I think
BLUE
fonts are annoying and should only be used for highlighting important sections of a post! Grin

English - I tend to agree. I still think that the super thin cords might be best used with a slightly elongated leather pouch for "grip". On the other hand, my 48" dyneema net sling didn't seem to have any trouble putting (poorly oriented - just like all my throws) spin on a slippery golf ball, so who knows?

I see nothing wrong with slightly heavier twist resistant cords say halfway and then thinner up to pouch. Air resistance  increases dramatically in proportion to length. Or heavy retention cord and lighter one for release?

The blob at the  far end is another culprit To deal wih.

yeah I relized my error in title than you for being nice.
second; I don't have much of a tangling problem. that may be because i use a very wide grip. index and thumb on release node and retention loop on ring finger with the string going over and ouside the pinky. I fell into this grip because of a mismade sling and i really enjoy it.
third; i did have a small amount of troble with the pouch
but that has been solve with a strap weaved across the midde

....lobohunter, with that  wide grip you should pitch some pretty football spirals with ellipsoid ammo if you release with your palm forward!   mgreenfield

My grip's almost the same as yours, lobohunter, except that the retention cord goes under middle finger and over index, making a very narrow grip.  I'll have to try you way too, to see how I like it.

what are the advantages of a narrow grip other than possibly holding the ammo in better

less air resistance, and... that's about it.  I mostly use it because its more comfortable for me cause I'm used to it.
I tried your way today---couldn't get used to it.

New (wide) grip takes a little getting used to, but may give cleaner releases because cords arent twisted around each other at time of release.   When we did some slinging together, archeorob shot stop-action pics that verified this.

I had a heck of a time combining nwmanitou's overhand style with a wide grip, but finally did it.

On the other hand, a narrow grip seems to give a very slightly more "snappy" release.   But I'll give up some snap for a "mini-rocket" look on launched ellipsoid ammo.

Right now, I'm getting good snap and pretty consistent spin with a toggle on the retained cord, and the cord exiting my fist between ring and bird fingers.

If ammo is falling out of the pocket when you use a wide grip, you may need to use a longer (not wider) pocket.  I think the ammo tends to roll back and forth in the pocket when you use a wide grip, and the wider the grip, the more the roll.

Other than that, practice, practice, practice.
