I'm having trouble with an illustration. I had it up, then it failed. Let me try a few other things.
Thanks

That may have been the problem. Maybe the file was just to big.

I like the picture.  I hate the way that people call the haircut depicted as a "Mohawk" or "mohican" (two different tribes) when in fact the people who wore said haircut most were in fact the Pawnee.  Anyway, as I say, nice picture.

Thanks for the compliments.
Various tribes wore their hair in such fashion, the Pawnee were just one of the tribes. Several of the northeastern tribes dressed their hair in a "Mohawk" manner! The movie "Last of the Mohicans" is one of my favorites. I knew a guy who played one of the British soldiers in the film and said it was a great experience. They had to go through a mini "boot camp" and learn 18th century army drill. Alot of work he said.

Yeah, I love that movie too.  Everyone who has watched it loves it.  It even has great music.
I am aware that many north-eastern tribes did indeed dress their hair in this way.  However, the main style was to have a "scalping tuft" which was where the man shaved off all of his hair apart from a small section which was grown long, the easier for the enemy to scalp.  An odd idea, but it seemed to suit them.  I suppose the style is known as a Mohawk or Mohican because of the fact that these tribes were some of the first to have contact with Europeans (in particular the English) and the Pawnee were encountered later (and used particularly as scouts by the US army).  Anyways, I like seeing your pictures on the forum.  It just adds something to the place.

You can't run through the woods with long hair without it getting caught on branches etc.  That's why the Eastern Woodlands people worn their hair so short.
