My New Favorite Sling
Aug 4th, 2004 at 2:34pm

Ta-Daa!  My first braided sling (if you don't count the two I made with the "20 Steps" article or the three that didn't work out so well Wink).

...

...

The wrist retention is an 8-strand flat braid (supposed to be a chevron pattern, but that didn't happen).  The cords are 16-strand Peruvian-style braids with a diamond motif.  The pouch is a simple over-under weave, with the 16 original strands + another 16 added in acting as the ribs around which another cord is woven.  A French whip to finish it off and voila!  What'dya think?

First your sling looks really good. Smiley Have you used it yet? How well does it throw? How long did it take you to make it?

Mathias -- The article's still in the 'someday' phase.  I need my own digital camera first, which is dependent upon the approval of my wife (who is an accountant).  Wish me luck!  It's good ol' #18 seine twine from a craft shop.

Gun -- Throws great!  I did have to re-do the whipping on the end after my first slingin' session.  The second time around I sealed it with glue.  I guessing about 40 hours to make, roughly.  It's hard to guess 'cause I made it in 5 minute to 2 hour spurts over several months.  I'm sure my next one won't take as long.

What a beauty!  You'll have to write up an article to compliment Dan Bollinger's.  You're making two different things really.  There is so much variation on the braiding side of slinging.

Fantastic job!

She's a beaut.  I used to have trouble doing the weave, but not anymore... my problem now is adding extra fibres, which I somehow manage to mess up.  Anyway, it looks great.
