unusual projectile
Jul 27th, 2004 at 4:02am

I questioned myself, what unusual projectiles might have been hurled through the air. Most will have slung stones, concrete chucks, lead weights, tennis balls, ... What would interest me is what unusual slinging objects have flown through the air, as apples, dummy hand grenades, barbie dolls, burning dog poopy, ...
As it is frequently discussed how and where to sling , I want to ask WHAT has been slung (or planned to sling). Perhaps some people have hurled rather unusual things, please post. For me, I haven't thrown unusual bullets, but I'm planning to sling water balloons filled with coloured liquid.

Back when I only had public parks to sling in, I figured rocks were too dangerous, and tennis balls just didn't give quite the right feel.  Plus, I didn't want to have to go chasing after my ammo.  After a big christmas-cookie baking party my wife threw, we ended up with a huge bowl of cookie dough left over.  Moldable, relatively dense (compared to tennis balls), bio-degradable...

I love slinging produce like apples, pears, and plums. Walnuts still in the husk are great. But one that I find I use often to do quick tests of new slings is a nice red potato.

Yeah, ...I find spuds (potatoes) work pretty well, too.  I think Yurek is an long-time spud-chucker.  mgreenfield

Clay quite a lot.... hackysack... some short carved sticks.... play-do.... a piece of my old computer, which wrecked my sling... a few other things.  Never tried a potato.

I've slung my ferrets Grin  Don't worry, just a gentle underhand toss onto the bed, no windups.  They love it!

Who was it that used to drop empty wine bottles on the enemy from aircraft to scare the enemy? I know it is recounted in a Biggles tales from the first world war- that, for our American readers, lasted from 1914 to 1918. (sorry, that was too easy)
