Welcome Jonjon,
I would be easier to advise, if you deliver a little more informations about your way of slinging. The video would be the best. Don't use too long sling at the begining, the 30 - 35" one should be ok. Too long one is a more difficult to manage. The most important stage is the final stroke, something like lashing with a thin withe. You should be "well connected" to the sling, feel how your hand is pulling the cords. No rush and violence during first practices, it most probably will give you only pain, but not the sense. As guys have said, analyse the videos, dig in the older topics, there is a lot advices. Don't frustrate if you don't get the 200 yards range quickly, it is pretty far. First of all you should find the best way which will allow to exploit your potential fully. Good luck.
