Need Help??   Don't we all.  Don't we all  Cheesy.   If it isn't range, it's accuracy.    Look at the slinging videos.   Build strength & practice, practice, practice.    But that's what makes slinging fun, ....the neverending challenge of the thing.    Welcome to the forum of fellowsuffers.  mgreenfield

Practice technique first, then add power. You need to get the feel of the movement first then increase power. Try using tennis balls against a brick wall for starters. There are severial videos on the articles section, check there.

Some important factors not yet mentioned are:

1. The record distances were achieved with long slings--49"--52"

2. Very dense, slightly football shaped material.

"Only" 34 inches might be the problem the other direction too! Ammo weight is related pretty closely to sling length and aerodynamics. If you are starting out with smaller/lighter rocks you might want to try something much shorter - helps for accuracy (some say) and it might be easier to get the hang of things.

What do the experts think? I used to use golf ball weight (and sometimes golf balls) with 18-24" pouch to tip slings with good success...

I have tried shorter slings, can't hit a thing with them.I use an over arm throw for accuracy, and under arm for range.I perfer 2oz rocks.

30 inches is a good sized sling.  You should be able to get about 300 feet with that, maybe a bit more.

Some people are just built to sling.  I'm not a weak guy, but I can't throw like Yurek can, no matter how hard I try or what style I use.  Some people can throw balls really far, and others can't.  It's how your body is built.

If you want really long ranges, your best bet is a long sling a good/dense ammo.

Welcome Jonjon,

I would be easier to advise, if you deliver a little more informations about your way of slinging. The video would be the best. Don't use too long sling at the begining, the 30 - 35" one should be ok. Too long one is a more difficult to manage. The most important stage is the final stroke, something like lashing with a thin withe.  You should be "well connected" to the sling, feel how your hand is pulling the cords. No rush and violence during first practices, it most probably will give you only pain, but not the sense. As guys have said, analyse the videos, dig in the older topics, there is a lot advices. Don't frustrate if you don't get the 200 yards range quickly, it is pretty far. First of all you should find the best way which will allow to exploit your potential fully. Good luck.

Jurek

In the shape, structure and position of each stone, there is recorded a small piece of history. So, slinging them, we add a bit of our history to them.

I hit about 90yds.today with the under-arm method,I think my main problem was I was geting the angle to the ground wrong. 45dgs is optimim, but I was only doing 20dgs or so.On my long shot I was about 35dgs

My short range accuracy is still doing pretty well, got whithin a 1/2" of a crow. Grin
